TVSF Minutes 3rd August
Present: Mons, Hale, J, Michael, Auto Apologies: Honeybee, Steed, Alabama
Action Points:
- Auto:
- to email national treasurer to say it’ll be done by September and we are paying.
- to send hale details of subs, bank details, etc.
- to finalise details of workplace training with Jerome Baxter and ask about the SP guy
- Mons:
- to send rananegra’s email round list (edit: I might have already sorted this with the treasurer, not sure, I’ll check) so people can get on the list it gets sent to
- to speak to Dan and get venue sorted for workplace training, once Auto’s sorted that out
- to organise proper big one for mid-September (13th/14th weekend?), invite other locals, and friends from Oxford. Get music and make it a bit of benefit? J’s up for playing. Ask sifa’s band, and grizzle bear, and some friends, about playing. Get pub venue but make sure they allow music.
- to check email/facebook and get someone else to go when away, could sort a proper web delegate then
- Hale:
- to respond to request for help with redundancy info, asking for details, and put it on internal forums, libcom or something.
- J:
- to look into costs and get a pasting table/stall in Banbury, the local can pay.
Workplace Reports:
- Auto: Company’s growing, new arts manager, and might move offices to Frideswide Square near the train station. Close to crunch time now. Lots of anger against bosses shown when drunk J
- Michael: They’ve set up a ‘staff acknowledgement system’ to motivate people, like an employee of the month thing
- Mons holiday in central/eastern europe, very good J
- Hale: Agency work, got work at the moment. Weirdly another agency tried to pay to get him to do a job with their agency.
- J: Pushed by jobcentre to get work. Forced to apply for a zero-hour contract driving cars around the country. Have to pay his own expenses, including accommodation, up front. Also if you get only 16 hours you have completely reapply for benefits. Refusing to apply, will see what happens from that… Wanted to go for a job sorting and distributing at the post office, but no luck. Taking a trip to see his parents, you’ve got to register holiday with the job centre and get paid less/don’t get paid (sorry, I forgot which one is it) while you’re away. But he can sign on where his parents live while he’s there, gets round the problem.
Treasurer/subs/dues:
- Email from national treasurer; we haven’t paid any dues to the national organisation yet. Steed, treasurer, is away. Auto to email national treasurer to say it’ll be done by September and we are paying.
- Auto to send hale details of subs, bank details, etc.
Feedback from NDC:
- Everything went smoothly, process worked well, nothing controversial.
Internal Bulletin:
- It’s the way we communicate officially with each other nationally outside NDC’s and conferences, sent out online. Locals and industrial networks submit bulletins if they have something to say, report, etc.

Offering Help:
- Hale’s been asked for help by someone who’s been laid off before her contract was due to expire, wants to know what she can do. Legalistic, but still might as well find out more and help, good to make contacts, etc.
- Hale to respond asking for details, and put it on internal forums, libcom or something.
Sorting meetings out:
- June 30, etc. took our normal meeting day and been thrown out of sync.
- We should leave a week’s notice of when/where meetings will be
- Get back on track, but this time the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, starting this Thursday, the 11th! So we don’t clash with Oxford Save Our Services meetings and can attend them.
- If the regular Thursday won’t work for whatever reason, we need to re-schedule for asap
Workplace Training:
- The next one will probably be on the 16th, Auto to deliver but possibly with Jerome Baxter there, needs finalising though.
- One Socialist Party (Trots) member was really interested, wanted to look at the course details, Auto to ask Jerome.
Social:
- Was meant to be 6th August but that’s 3 days. So postpone having a big social, but have a small one anyway. Meet at the gate to Port Meadow up Walton Well Road at 2pm, and walk on to The Perch.

UK Uncut Sunday:
- They asked us to join them at their action this Sunday
- Hale and others (all) express doubts with their politics; their ‘tactics are ahead of their politics’, but still think it’s good it’s happening
- Won’t go as TVSF but some might go as individuals, probably not this time…
Meeting in Banbury:
- Maybe meeting after next, will finalise at the next meeting.
Stall:
- Let’s do one when we’re in Banbury
- Let’s get one, at the moment have to find someone with an OARC key and ask for it, etc. Should buy one. J to look into costs and get one in Banbury, the local can pay.
